    Born in Mundare, Alberta, Canada
    Graduated from University of British Columbia (1949)
    Obtained M.A. (1951) and Ph.D. (1952) at University of Iowa
    Combined the theories of behaviorism and cognitive psychology
    Widely known for developing the ‘social learning theory’, which states that attention, retention, reciprocation and motivation are the basic elements of a child’s learning development
    Currently a professor at Stanford University (1953- )
    Wrote ‘Adolescent Aggression’ (1959), ‘Social Learning through Imitation’ (1962), ‘Psychological Modeling: Conflicting Theories’ (1971), ‘Social Learning & Personality Development’ (1975), ‘Social Foundations of Thought and Action: A Social Cognitive Theory’ (1986), and ‘Self-Efficacy: The Exercise of Control’ (1997)
    Won Grawemeyer Award in psychology (2008)

Why he might be annoying:

    The Bobo doll experiment he used to base his social learning theory on involved using preschool kids to see whether they will develop aggressive behavior. (1961)
    He is often mistakenly grouped with the behaviorists.
    He said: “Most of the images of reality on which we base our actions are really based on vicarious experience.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is the only boy in a family of eight.
    His home town’s only school had scarce resources, so he and his schoolmates had to work based on initiative.
    As of 2012, he was widely considered the most influential living psychologist.
    His theory explains why children and teenagers nowadays are more prone to violent behavior than they were in the past.
