    He found traditional art boring.
    He was an artist who ‘opposed art and everything it stood for.’
    He said that art should have no meaning or purpose whatsoever.
    Many feel his work is nonsense.
    He called art ‘a magic opening of the bowels.’
    He used his surreal ‘Dada’ movement to reflect the disorder in Europe following World War I.
    He escaped France when the Nazis invaded.
    His work had a great influence on contemporary artists.
    He was a published poet as well as a painter.
    He frequently collaborated with his wife.
    The French government made him change his name from Hans to ‘Jean.’
