    Born in LaPlace, Louisiana
    Birth name was Edward Ory
    Banjo player turned trombonist
    Pioneer of New Orleans/Dixieland jazz
    Led the Creole Orchestra
    Wrote and recorded the standards 'Muskrat Ramble' and 'Savoy Blues'
    Appeared in the films 'New Orleans' (1947) and 'The Benny Goodman Story' (1956)
    Inducted in the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame (1986)

Why he might be annoying:

    His band originally recorded under the name 'Spike's Seven Pods of Pepper.'
    He retired during the 1930s to join his brother in running a chicken farm.
    Much of his memorabilia was sold off at auction after his daughter failed to pay the rent on a storage unit.
    Asked by a fan for tips on playing the trombone, he replied, 'Never do it for nothing.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    His band was the first black jazz band from New Orleans to release a record (1922).
    Notable members of his Creole Orchestra included trumpeter Louis Armstrong and clarinetist Sidney Bechet.
    He came out of retirement during the Dixieland revival of the 40s and continued playing well into his 70s.
    He performed weekly on the Orson Welles-hosted radio program 'Almanac.'
