    Birth name is Thomas Jonathan Jackson
    Graduated from West Point (1846)
    Professor of artillery tactics and physics at Virginia Military Institute
    Earned a promotion to divisional command after the first battle of Bull Run (July 1861)
    Confederate army officer in many Civil War battles
    He was very religious and disliked fighting on Sunday.
    He did not dress the part of a military officer, instead opting for an old, tattered uniform.
    He frequently chewed lemons during military marches.
    He was intensely secretive about his military plans in which he commanded.
    He was strict about military procedure and discipline.
    His performance was poor during the Seven Days' battles, blamed mostly on a lack of sleep.
    He died of wounds received when he was fired upon by his own troops, They thought, he and his staff were Union soldiers.
    His final words were, 'Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees.'
    Like Robert E. Lee, he is still greatly admired in the South.
    His earned his famous nickname, when another general commented on his stance during the battle by shouting at his men, 'There is Jackson standing like a stone wall.'
    Hearing of his death, General Lee told his cook, 'William, I have lost my right arm.'
    His death was a great morale blow to the South and he proved to be an irreplaceable loss.
    He fought with honor during the Mexican-American War, something rarely mentioned.
    He is a legendary figure of the Civil War that many from both sides admired.
    His likeness is carved at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia.
    He was an orphan.
    His wife died while giving birth to his stillborn child.
