The Resume

Born in Northowram, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom
Killed at least seven women and a child over a decade (1943-53)
    Executed by hanging
Portrayed by Richard Attenborough in the film ’10 Rillington Place’ (1971)

Why he might be annoying:

He constantly cheated on his wife with prostitutes.
He spent three months in prison for stealing postal orders while working at the post office (1921).
He was sentenced to six months at hard labor for assaulting a prostitute by striking her on the head with a cricket bat (1929).
He spent three months in prison for stealing a car (1933).
After buying a house at 10 Rillington Place in London, he bored peepholes to spy on his tenants.
He killed his victims by strangling them after rendering them unconscious with coal gas.
He raped several of his victims when they were unconscious.
He saved patches of pubic hair from four of his victims.
After killing Beryl Evans and her infant daughter Geraldine, he testified as the main prosecution witness at the murder trial of Beryl’s husband Timothy, resulting in the execution of an innocent man.
After killing his wife Ethel (December 14, 1952), he pawned her jewelry and forged her signature to clear out her bank account.
At his trial, he tried unsuccessfully to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

Why he might not be annoying:

At age eleven, he won a scholarship to Halifax Academy.
He was a Boy Scout and later a Scoutmaster.
He was gassed during World War I.
He managed to join the War Reserve Constables during WWII (mainly because no one bothered to check if he had a criminal record).
After his hands were tied behind his back in preparation for his execution, he complained that his nose itched; hangman Albert Pierrepoint assured him, ‘It won’t bother you for long.’
