    Two-time American League batting champion (1951-52)

Why he might be annoying:

    While a high school senior, he was secretly paid $200 per month under the table by the San Francisco Seals.
    He led the AL in errors by a first baseman in five seasons (1947-50,1952).
    Near the end of the 1952 season, he broke his hand in a bar fight and hid the injury from manager Jimmy Dykes.
    He was fined $600 after getting into a brawl with several White Sox fans in a Maryland café (1953).
    He was sentenced to five years of probation after police raided his home and found marijuana plants (1985).
    He was sentenced to 18 months in prison after another raid in which 400 marijuana plants were found in a barn on his property (1988).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left-handed.
    His father, a former jockey, was an abusive alcoholic.
    He set a record for his position when he participated in 194 double plays in the 1949 season.
    He won the 1952 batting title despite playing with a broken hand late in the season
    Hall of Famer Joe Gordon called Fain the greatest fielding first baseman he ever saw.
    His explanation for his marijuana busts: ‘I grew ’em because, damn it, I was good at growing things, just like I was good at hitting a baseball.’
