Managed the Pittsburgh Pirates (1894-1896), Milwaukee, Western League (1897-1900); and Philadelphia A’s (1901-1950)
Managed to five World Series titles (1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, and 1930)
Owner of the Philadelphia A’s (1901-1956)
Inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame (1937)
Nicknamed 'The Tall Tactician'

As manager, he wore a business suit and a hat instead of wearing a team uniform.
He had money problems, which caused him to sell some of his good players.
New York Giants Manager, John McGraw called his A’s a ‘white elephant that nobody demanded.’

He was a clever gentleman.
He loved the game of baseball.
He was the first manager to manage the American League in the All-Star Game (1933).
When he retired, he was the oldest manager in baseball history at 87 years of age (1950).
A statue of himself is located nearby Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
