    (September 9, 1960- )
    Born in Greenville, North Carolina
    Hardee’s Food Systems, Inc.
Founded by Wilbur Hardee as Burger Castle (September 1960)
Classic fast food restaurant chain specializing in charbroiled hamburgers
Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri (2001– )
    ‘Eat like you mean it’
A trademark dispute with the Harvey’s burger chain in Canada discourages the use of the brand name there.
The second restaurant, in Rocky Mount, was long maintained to be the original but kept as a piece de resistance.
Worse, not helped the least by entering into a partnership with two others, Hardee himself wasn’t recognized as the founder.
Ultimately, in 1997, the company was bought up by CKE Restaurants (as in, Carl’s Jr.).
Pakistan and the Middle East were the last remaining locations outside North America.
It was created mainly to service the Carolina towns the immensely successful McDonald’s weren’t thinking about.
The website spotlights their ‘other side’ menu, which concerns the standard health and dietary issues.
In the Middle East, the menu includes no pork but does use Halal-certified beef.
Where the original Hardee’s stood some two decades earlier, there would eventually be a medical office.
For the 40th anniversary of the chain, Hardee was invited to meet Carl Karcher and finally be honored as its founder.
