    Served twelve years in prison for assault against Linda Riss (1962-74)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was an ambulance-chasing attorney who would sometimes stage minor accidents to wrangle settlements.
    He dated Linda when he was married with a four-year-old disabled daughter.
    After Linda broke up with him and got engaged to another man, he hired thugs to throw lye in her face, blinding her (1959).
    While in prison, he obsessively wrote her letters with sentiments like 'Despite what I did, you will never find a man to love you more than me.'
    He served 15 days in prison for second degree harassment against his mistress (1997).
    Newsday columnist Jimmy Breslin said, 'Nobody is as visibly insane as Burt Pugach.'
    'Crazy Love' director Dan Klores said, 'Burt is a gifted liar, a psychopath.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    His father deserted the family while Burt was celebrating his bar mitzvah.
    Linda said, 'Burt is my best ally, he's my best friend, he takes care of me as no one else would.'
    Asked if he had advice for people 'crazy in love,' he replied, 'Remember: God gave you free will. I failed, but you don't have to.'
