    (September 29, 1968- )
    Born in San Diego, California
    Founder/CEO of Linden Lab (1999)
Created the online virtual world, Second Life (2003)

Why he might be annoying:

His virtual Second Life alter ego looks like a Surf City cross between Sonic Goku and David Crosby.
He was over fifty before he finally stopped using blonde hair coloring dye.
Five years in, Second Life had to ban in-world banking after being hit with a series of banking fraud scandals.
His virtual world launch was met with hype but was ultimately overshadowed by the advent of Facebook.
The launching was also complicated by a myriad of other problems (chiefly difficult user interface, regular platform meltdowns, and problems with political radicalism in the virtual community).

Why he might not be annoying:

He's the rare self-made tech giant who doesn't come off as an egomaniacal prick.
He started his own company selling database systems to small businesses at 17.
He created the Internet video conferencing product, 'Freevue.'
He and Linden Lab received WIRED's Rave Award for Innovation in Business.
He is an engaging and disarming public speaker.
As of 2020, Second Life is populated by over one million active users.
He said of virtual technology: 'We don't see this as a game. We see it as a platform that is, in many ways, better than the real world.'
