    Took over his father's Clear Springs Distillery located in Nelson County, Kentucky
    Incorporated the James B. Beam Distilling Company (August 14, 1934)

    He left his family's distillery to grow citrus in Florida.
    He took his great-grandfather's business and named it after himself.
    He used to carry his yeast home with him on the weekends, so that nobody could steal it.
    His nicknames were 'Mr. Jim' and 'Big B.'
    For 14 years, Kentucky instated a prohibition, forcing his distillery to shut down (1919-1933).
    He achieved great success rebuilding his company during the Great Depression.
    His whiskey was influential in the U.S. Congress's decision to declare bourbon 'America's Native Spirit.'
    His brand is one of the most recognizable in the bourbon industry.
    He was a Colonel.
