Why he might be annoying:

He made a lot of questionable trades during his tenure as the Phillies general manager.
He fired his manager Pat Corrales, while his team was in first place (1983).
He presided over two dead last finishes in his first three years at the helm.
He signed Pete Rose while the latter was in the declining stages of his career.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the architect of the Phillies team that won the franchise's first World Series title (1980).

Upon taking over mid-season, he guided the team to a 47-30 record and a berth in the World Series (1983).
Despite being fired after the 1984 season, he remained in the Phillies organization serving in various capacities until his death.
He was the first person inducted into the Philadelphia Baseball Hall of Fame who didn't play for any of the city's teams, but went in for his work with the Phillies.
