Why he might be annoying:

He was accused of plagiarizing the plot of ‘Life of Pi’ from an obscure Brazilian book.
When confronted with the similarities, he said the other author was a 'lesser' writer than himself.
He responded to a (hostile) interview question about the scandal by saying ‘Let me debunk your stupid questions and their many fatal misstatements.’
He bashes Salman Rushdie and other writers he finds pretentious.
He grew up rich.
He says he spends a lot of time playing computer solitaire.
One interviewer described him as effeminate.

Why he might not be annoying:

‘Life of Pi’ became a best seller, despite being released on September 11, 2001.
The book won the coveted Booker Prize for fiction.
He does a lot of careful research for his novels.
He is modest about his work.
He enjoys pumpkin pie.
