He dropped out of school to become a carpenter.
He was uncredited in most of his film appearances.
He was nicknamed 'the Little Nemesis' because he was less than 5'5 tall.
Because of his diminutive stature, he was cast as a college student in 'A Chump at Oxford,' despite being 40 years old.
In his Laurel and Hardy films, Stan Laure would ask him to disguise his accent, since he felt that two actors with English accents in a comedy set in America would be distracting.
He was a member of the Fred Karno music hall troupe, alongside Charlie Chaplin and Stan Jefferson.
He appeared in more Laurel and Hardy films than any other supporting player.
In 'The Battle of the Century' (1927), he launches the first shot in the 'pie fight to end all pie fights.' (It used 3,000 pies -- the entire output of one LA bakery.)
When acting roles became few and far between, he fell back on his carpentry background, working for Warner Brothers as a prop maker.
