    (circa 1206-1248)
Conquered/invaded Dongxia Kingdom (1233), Russia and Central Europe (1236-1241), and Korea (July 1247-1250)
Khan of the Mongol Empire (1246-1248)
    Died in Qum-Senggir, Xinjiang, China
He constantly quarreled with his cousin Batu, even calling him an ‘old woman with a quiver’ during a banquet celebrating their conquests and swearing with his other cousin Büri as they left.
His father scolded him for maltreating his own soldiers, so he was dispatched to Europe again.
Despite his incompetence, he became Great Khan because of his mother Töregene’s cunning.
He executed some of his mother’s high-ranking officials, which accelerated his unpopularity among his people.
He was an alcoholic, which worsened his health.
His coronation was attended by about 3,000-4,000 foreign dignitaries from all over Asia and Eastern Europe (August 24, 1246).
He eventually became a skilled ruler, reversing some of his mother’s unpopular decrees.
