    (circa 1995-October 11, 2008)
    Born in United States
Saved her five kittens from a fire in Brooklyn, New York on March 30, 1996
Her name refers to the burns she suffered while rescuing her offspring.
She may have been living in a crack house that caught on fire.
One of her kittens died a month later.
She inspired countless journalistic platitudes about how animals can be better parents than humans.
Despite her injuries, she kept returning to the burning building until all five kittens were saved.
Over 7000 people offered to adopt her and her kittens.
Several books were written about her.
The North Shore Animal League created the 'Scarlett Award for Animal Heroism' in her honor.
