    As a solo artist, recorded 'Otis Spann Is the Blues,' 'The Blues Is Where It's At,' 'The Blues Never Say Die,' 'Cracked Spanner Head,' and 'The Biggest Thing Since Colossus'

    He was a heavy drinker.
    He once attacked blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin with a chain.
    He died of liver cancer at the age of 40.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He played piano on Muddy Waters' classic songs, including 'Hoochie Coochie Man' and 'Got My Mojo Working.'
    He is regarded as one of the greatest postwar blues pianists.
    His parents were also musicians.
    On his 1969 album 'The Biggest Thing Since Colossus,' he was backed by members of Fleetwood Mac.
    He also worked with Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy and Big Mama Thornton.
    He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame ten years after his death.
