    Acted in 'Here Come the Nelsons (1952),' 'Francis Covers the Big Town (1953),' 'Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys! (1958),' 'Don't Give Up the Ship (1959),' 'The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959),' 'Visit to a Small Planet (1960),' 'All Hands on Deck (1961),' 'Dondi (1961),' 'All in a Night's Work (1961),' 'Sergeant Dead Head (1965),' 'Speedway (1968)' and 'The 'burbs (1989)'
    His part as spokesman for Rexall Drugs was integrated into the scripts on NBC Radio's 'The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show (1948-1950).'
    He was typecast as the reserved, stuffy, blustery, authoritative and pompous types - famous for his 'slow burn.'
    He was nominated 4 times for an Emmy in a supporting role on a TV series and lost all 4 times (1955, 1967-68, & 1971).
    He has a website even though he was a career character actor and he's been dead for a decade.
    He distinguished diction came as a result of surgery he had as a kid to correct a cleft palate.
    He got his break when cast as Mayor LaTrivia on old radio show 'Fibber McGee & Molly.'
    He had a very solid business relationship and friendship with Lucille Ball. He had a role in every one of her TV series (including two episodes of 'I Love Lucy' and 12 in the short lived 'Life with Lucy').
    He was married to the same woman for 58 years (1937-1995).
    She died just one month before he succumbed to cancer.
    He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame (1999).
