Her owners did not down-played her abilities so the could profit at 9 to 2 odds on her first race.
She won her races against only fillies (females).
Wanting to see if she could beat a colt (male), she lost to Foolish Pleasure and it cost her, her life.
Why she might not be annoying
She tied the Belmont track record in her first race (1:03).
Vasquez who jockeyed both Foolish Pleasure and Ruffian chose to mount Ruffian in the match race.
She was leading by half a length in the backstretch when her leg popped.
Even though Vasquez, tried stopping her, she continued racing shattering her sesamoid bones in her right leg.
Vets repaired the leg damage, but she struggled and would not allow the leg to heal. It was decide to put her down (July 7, 1975).
