    The Los Angeles Dodgers cut him after spring training as Mike Piazza became the starting catcher of the team (1993).
    His offensive output went into decline in his second year in Philadelphia.
    He led the league in throwing passed balls of the modern era.
    He was fired as a coach along with manager Alan Trammell a year before the Tigers reached their first World Series appearance in 22 years.

    He was the clean-up hitter for the 1984 World Series winning Tiger team.
    He hit over a 100 RBI during the 1983 season.
    He set an AL record in home runs as a catcher.
    He hit 20 home runs in a season 7 times (1980, 1982-1986 and 1990).
    He also hit 30 home runs a season twice (1982 and 1984).
    He had two sons who became professional baseball players.
