    Hosted fourteen cooking shows on public television
    He left school at 13 to become an apprentice chef.
    He turned down an offer to be White House chef for the Kennedys.
    For a decade, he was an advisor to Howard Johnson's, a restaurant chain not exactly known for its fine French cuisine. Or fine cuisine in general.
    He said, 'You can never put anything in front of me that I don’t eat. I’m pretty much of a glutton.'
    He was the personal chef for three French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle.
    He earned a master's degree in French literature from Columbia University.
    He and Julia Child won Daytime Emmys for 'Julia and Jacques: Cooking from Home' (2001).
    He was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
    He said of the molecular gastronomy trend, 'That gets tiring after a while. Sometimes you just want a taco and a beer.'
