Military Personnel

The Resume

    (December 1, 1844-July 1, 1862)
    Born in Georgia
Served under General John B. Magruder as a Private in Company C, 2nd Louisiana Infantry, CSA during the American Civil War (1861-65)
Participated in the Battle of Malvern Hill (1862)

Why he might be annoying:

He fought for a state that supported slavery.
    He was decapitated by cannonball.
For over a century, he has been misidentified as Georgia Private E.F. Jennison or Private E.F Jennings killed at Malvern Hill, but these were not his names and he did not serve as a 'Georgia Private.'
His face has been prominently featured in many Civil War picture books even though he was a common foot soldier.
His parents erected a monument at Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia even though he's buried in an unmarked grave somewhere on the Malvern Hill battlefield in Virginia.

Why he might not be annoying:

His was 17 when he died.
He probably didn't own any slaves.
His solemn face not only serves as a poignant reminder of doomed boyhood, but of a lost generation.
He came from a long line of distinguished ancestors of congressmen, doctors, lawyers and Revolutionary War heroes.
His photograph is one of the most iconic images of the American Civil War.
