Philosopher
    (April 22, 1724-February 12, 1804)
Wrote 'Critique of Pure Reason,' 'Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals,' 'Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics,' 'Religion Within Limits of Reason Alone' and 'Observations on the Feeling of the Beautiful and Sublime'
He left Königsberg one time in his life; to go on the only date that he ever had.
He thought that the only act that is more immoral than masturbation was suicide.
He came up with a secular explanation for why sex was only permissible inside of marriage.
Even though he wrote a great deal about sex, he died a virgin.
His metaphysics held that there was something outside of our perception, but we can never know what it is.
His ethics have been criticized as being too rigid & not allowing for special circumstances (i.e. since it is wrong to lie, it is wrong to lie to a murderer about the location of his next victim, even if you know that he intends to kill them).
He walked the same distance at the same time every day, and was so punctual that people would set their clocks by when he went by.
He may have very well been the worst writer in the history of philosophy.
When he was about 40, his doctor told him that he only had a few months to live (he was almost 80 when he died).
He more or less ended the empiricist/rationalist debate.
He is one of the most important philosophers who ever lived, perhaps only eclipsed by Plato and Aristotle.
All western philosophy subsequent to him has been working on the problems that he set forth.
Part of his ethics stressed respecting people to by autonomous agents who should be free to make decisions for themselves.
Objectivists (Ayn Rand's cult) hate him, so he must have done something right.
He was a terrific billiards player.
He knew just about everything in every subject, and could discuss geography, history, or math just as well as he could philosophy.
