Why he might be annoying:

    He tried to add a rider to the bill creating the Department of Homeland Security that would benefit US tobacco companies by restricting sales of low-cost cigarettes on the internet.
    His son Andy and wife Abigail are lobbyists for Philip Morris, which is the largest donor to his campaigns.
    He added a rider to an Iraq War appropriations bill that benefited UPS and FedEx, who contributed $58,000 to his campaigns.
    He has numerous ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
    He issued a press release boasting he had a majority of votes to replace Tom DeLay as House Majority Leader, but lost the actual vote to John Boehner.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served as president of Southwest Baptist University (1993-96).
    He rose from freshman to the third-highest House position in only six years.
    He argued that the rider regulating cigarette sales had a legitimate national security purpose in that Hezbollah was making money by selling black market cigarettes. A similar provision was later passed into law.
