    (July 7, 1903-October 7, 1995)
Educated at Eton and Oxford University
Elected to the House of Commons (1931)
Parliamentary private secretary to Neville Chamberlain (1937-1939)
Lost his seat in the House of Commons (1945)
Regained his seat in the House of Commons (1950)
Appointed Minister of State at the Scottish Office by Winston Churchill (1951-1957)
    Commonwealth Relations Secretary (1955-1960)
Lord President of the Council (1957-1960)
    Foreign Secretary (1960-1963)
Leader of the House of Lords
Prime Minister of Great Britain (1963-1965)
Foreign Secretary in Edward Heath's government (1974)
Granted the title Baron Home of the Hirsel of Coldstream
    14th Earl of Home
He negotiated with Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.
He was given his post as the Foreign Secretary without being elected, which almost caused a vote of censure (1960).
He resigned from the House of Lords and disclaimed his Earldom, so he could become Prime Minister.
The dust had hardly cleared from the controversy when he lost the general election (October, 1964).
He was a skilled Foreign Secretary, serving before and after he became Prime Minister in conservative governments.
He is the only Prime Minister that resigned from the House of Lords to enter the House of Commons.
He was restored to and was quite active in the House of Lords for the rest of his life as the Baron Home of the Hirstel.
