    (April 25, 1905-August 30, 1986)
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
Bought the crypt above Marilyn Monroe’s from ex-husband Joe DiMaggio
While dying, he told his wife Elsie, ‘If I croak, if you don’t put me upside down over Marilyn, I’ll haunt you the rest of my life.’
One presumes he meant for the rest of her life. (Or else it was the ultimate in empty threats.)
Exactly what did he think he could do upside down over Marilyn that he couldn’t do in any other position, given the whole ‘There’s a slate slab between us’ issue? (And the even bigger, ‘We’re both dead’ issue.)
He almost lost his position over Marilyn when Elsie tried to sell his crypt on eBay to raise money to pay off a mortgage (2009).
He got to stay put when the winning bid – and the top eleven runners up – turned out to bogus.
He also bought the crypt next to his own for his wife.
Elsie reported his last wishes to the undertaker, who turned him over in his casket after the funeral.
Even if the sale of his crypt had gone through, forcing him to relocate, he would have spent 23 years next to Marilyn Monroe, which is more than her three husbands combined.
He had a kindred spirit in Hugh Hefner, who bought the crypt next to Marilyn and said, ‘I’m a believer in things symbolic. Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.’
