Why he might be annoying:

He is best remembered for his volatile, five year marriage to Marilyn Monroe.
His first play ran only six performances on Broadway.
He was convicted of Contempt of Congress for refusing to name names before the House Un-American Committee.
He sued Columbia Studios to stop them from showing a short film that demonstrated what an ineffective salesman Willy Lohman actually was prior to the movie version of ‘Death of a Salesman.’
He smoked.
He was a Communist sympathizer.

He is considered to be, along with Eugene O’Neill and Tennessee Williams, one of the three great American playwrights.
He was blacklisted.
His play ‘The Crucible’ was a denunciation of Joseph McCarthy.
His conviction for Contempt of Congress was overturned by the Supreme Court.
He was married to photographer Inge Morath for forty years until her death (2002).
He has won a Pulitzer Prize, two Emmys and four Tony Awards.
