Why he might be annoying:

He is known primarily by his first name.
Under threat of torture (by the Catholic Church), he confessed (falsely) that his defense of the Copernican case was too strong, and that the Earth revolving around the Sun is a theory and not a fact (1633).
Pope Urban VIII sentenced him to house imprisonment for life (1633).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was tried for hersey against the Catholic Church for his defense of Copernicus stating that the Earth revolved around the Sun rather than vice versa (1633).
A request to Pope Urban VIII to seek medical treatment for a painful hernia was denied, and he was warned that any other requests will result in full imprisonment.
Galileo went blind, due to a lack of medical attention that was denied by Pope Urban VIII (1638).
He refused the Gold Chain from the Dutch States General and received commendation by Pope Urban VIII (1638).
The Dutch publish his papers, 'The Discourse on Two New Sciences.'
He was involved in the discovery of Sun Spots.
He proved that the speed of falling bodies was proportional to their density, not their weight as Aristotle had maintained.
According to legend, he did this by dropping various weighted objects off the Leaning Tower of Pisa (1589-92). In actuality, he used slanted, wooden tracks and rolled objects down them.
