He learned how to play guitar at 14 and began teaching how to play guitar at 16.
He's taught Kirk Hammet, Steve Vai, Primus' Larry LaLonde and Charlie Hunter how to play the guitar.
Mick Jagger was so impressed with Joe's guitar playing that he recruited him for his first solo tour (1988).
He toured as Deep Purple's guitarist during the early 90's.
