    He was beaten by Doak Walker (1948) and Leon Hart (1949) for the Heisman Trophy.
    He spent most of his NFL career on losing Redskins teams.
    Despite having a memorable performance with 199 gained yards on 11 attempts in an exhibition game, he injured his arm in the third quarter (1952).
    He fumbled the ball frequently.
    His NFL career was cut short by injuries.
    He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
    He earned All-American honors twice while attending University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
    His zig-zag running earned him the nickname 'Choo-Choo' as he ran like a train.
    He held a North Carolina Tar Heels record for total-offense (4,883 yards) for over 4 decades until 1994.
    The Orville Campbell-Hank Beebe song, 'All the Way, Choo Choo' was dedicated to him.
    The 1953 season was his best NFL season as he gained 616 rushing yards in 115 attempts.
    He was selected as one of the Greatest North Carolina Sports Figures by Sports Illustrated (1999).
    He was the first athlete of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
