    Birth name was Frederick Parrish
    Painter and illustrator
    Worked for the magazines Harpers Bazaar, Hearst, Life, and Colliers
    Illustrated the books ‘Mother Goose in Prose’ (1897), ‘Poems of Childhood’ (1904), and ‘The Arabian Nights’ (1909)
    Paintings include ‘Daybreak,’ ‘The Garden of Allah,’ ‘The Lute Players,’ and ‘Ecstasy’

Why he might be annoying:

    His paintings often featured androgynous nudes in fantasy settings.
    When he changed to landscapes, he declared, ‘I’m done with girls on rocks.’
    He dismissed modern art as ‘75% explanation and 25% God knows what.’
    Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley’s semi-nude appearance in the video for ‘You Are Not Alone’ was done as a Parrish homage.

    He was married to Lydia Austin for 58 years.
    His paintings were known for their luminous colors, achieved through glazing.
    He was the most popular artist of his day; it was estimated that in the 1920s, one out of every four homes in the US had a print of his ‘Daybreak.’
    Norman Rockwell called him ‘one of my gods.’
