    Wrote or co-wrote the songs ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,’ ‘Crazy Heart,’ ‘’Deed I Do,’ ‘Deep Water,’ ‘Faded Love and Winter Roses,’ ‘Flamin’ Mamie,’ ‘Foggy River,’ ‘Home in San Antone,’ ‘I Can’t Go On This Way,’ ‘I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive,’ ‘It’s a Sin,’ ‘Kaw-Liga,’ ‘A Pair of Broken Hearts,’ ‘Red Hot Mama,’ ‘Roly Poly,’ ‘Settin’ the Woods on Fire,’ ‘Take These Chains from My Heart,’ ‘Texarkana Baby’ and ‘Waltz of the Wind’
    With Roy Acuff, formed the first Nashville-based publishing company, Acuff-Rose Music (1942)
    Discovered and managed singer Hank Williams, Sr.
    He dropped out of school in the fourth grade.
    He was playing piano in saloons before he reached the legal drinking age.
    He was fired from an early radio job over his heavy drinking (1933).
    He first arrived in Nashville by accident, having taken a wrong turn on the way to St. Louis.
    He used ‘Floyd Jenkins’ as a pseudonym on some songs.
    He was nominated for an Oscar for a song he wrote for Gene Autry, ‘Be Honest with Me.’ (1941)
    Unlike many other publishing companies that took advantage of the naivety of country performers, the Acuff-Rose philosophy was ‘The writers would always be taken care of. No one would act in a shady way.’
    Along with Hank Williams and Jimmie Rogers, he was one of the three inaugural members of the Country Music Hall of Fame (1961).
    He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1985).
    Jeff Tweedy sang, ‘Name me a song that everybody knows/And I’ll bet you belongs to Acuff-Rose.’
