The Resume

    (October 2, 1974- )
    Born in Wise, Virginia
Shot and killed two men in Lahore, Pakistan (January 27, 2011)
Claimed to be a consultant for the US consulate
US government claimed he was protected by diplomatic immunity and demanded his release
British newspaper 'The Guardian' revelaed he was a contractor working for the CIA (February 21, 2011)
Released after 'blood money' was paid to relatives of the victims (March 16, 2011)
Amount paid reported to be between $1.4 and $3 million

Why he might be annoying:

He claimed to have acted in self-defense, but admitted to having shot one of the men as he was running away.
After he called for backup, a vehicle coming to his assistance killed a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run accident.
The wife of one of his victims committed suicide.
According to Pakitani officials, the two men he shot were working for Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) and were following Davis after he went to a restricted area without ISI approval.
Pakistan disputed the diplomatic immunity claim, noting that he was not included on a list of embassy personnel drawn up two days before the shooting.
Secretary of State Hilary Clinton denied that the US paid for Davis to be released, but US officials later said that Pakistan had paid the families and the US would reimburse Pakistan.
Lawyers for the dead men's families claimed that they were pressured into agreeing to accept the deal.
The whole incident further strained the already shaky alliance between the US and Pakistan.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served with the United Nations peacekeeping force in Macedonia (1994).
According to US sources, Pakistani officials privately agreed that Davis was covered under diplomatic immunity but refused to state so due to public sentiment in the country.
When Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab said that Davis had immunity, she was forced to resign her post.
A proposal to exchange him for terrorist Aafia Siddiqui never went through.
