Lead singer Vernessa Mitchell quit after their second album because she felt the material she was performing went against her religious beliefs.
Motown's touting of the group as 'the new Supremes' ticked off Mary Wilson, who was still recording for the label with the old Supremes.
They had one Top 40 hit -- 32 fewer than the Supremes.
They were discovered by Berry Gordy's sister Gwen while performing in Pasadena's Bicentennial Performing Arts Program.

Vernessa Mitchell scored several solo hits on the gospel charts.
