Terrorist

The Resume

    (August 18, 1926-April 27, 2011)
    Born in Potrerillo, Cuba
    Former pediatrician
Organized underground cells for the Cuban revolution of 1959
Became disillusioned and organized an anti-Castro rebellion
Went into exile in Miami (1960)
Served four years in jail for attacking a Polish freighter with a bazooka (1968-72)
After being paroled, went to Venezuela, Curacao, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela again
Founded the Coordination of United Revolutionary Organizations (CORU)
Group described by the FBI as 'an anti-Castro terrorist umbrella organization'
Allegedly masterminded the bombing of Cubana Flight 455, killing 73 people (October 6, 1976)
Twice found not guilty in Venezeulan courts
    Returned to Miami (1988)
Held for three years as an 'undesirable alien'
Released after receiving a pardon from George H.W. Bush for violating his 1972 parole

Why he might be annoying:

He has been accused of taking part in the JFK assassination, with conspiracy theorists claiming he can been seen next to the 'Umbrella Man' in the Zapruder film.
He was arrested for towing a home-made torpedo behind his car in downtown Miami during rush hour (1964).
His CORU organization was responsible for over 50 bombings in Miami, New York and Latin America.
Two months before the bombing of Cubana 455, CORU declared 'very soon we will be attacking jetliners in flight.'
He denied being responsible for the bombing, but did say 'There were no innocents on that plane.' (Among the 'guilty' parties on the plane: 21 members of the national fencing team and 11 exchange students from Guyana.)
George H.W. Bush's Attorney General, Richard Thornburgh, called him 'an unrepentant terrorist.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was president of the student body at the University of Havana's medical school.
He said he became disillusioned with Castro's regime after <4687>Che Guevara<./4687> ignored his request that two accused spies not be executed without first receiving a trial.
He learned to paint in prison after taking lessons from a fellow inmate.
He was considered a hero by much of the Cuban exile community. (Illustrating the saying, 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.')
