Baseball Player

The Resume

    (September 8, 1978- )
    Born in Lafayette, Louisiana
Pitcher for the Seattle Mariners (1999-2000, 2003-06) and the Kansas City Royals (2007-10)
Career record of 84 wins and 83 losses
American League Comeback player of the Year (2003)

Why he might be annoying:

    He is twice divorced.
His career was plagued by injuries.
He missed out on being a member of the 2001 team that set the modern day record for most wins by an AL team as a result.
Some baseball pundits felt he was overworked, which played a role in his shoulder being damaged.
He initially planned to attend Lousiana State University, before opting not to after being drafted by the Mariners.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the World Junior Baseball Championship (1995).
He made an improbable comeback after missing two years due to surgeries.
He made his only All-Star appearance with the Royals, in a season in which he led the league in earned run average, wins and starts (2007).
He unselfishly walked away from the remaining $12 million of his contract, feeling he didn't deserve it if he was going to spend the season on the disabled list.
His decision to walk away earned praise in baseball circles, as he chose to do it in an era of selfishness.
