The Resume

    (August 23, 1990-August 11, 1991)
    Originally aired on NBC
    Set in Santa Barbara, California
Premise: A spin-off of the 1986 film 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'
    Charlie Schlatter as Ferris Bueller
Richard Riehle as Edward R. Rooney
    Sam Freed as Bob Bueller
    Jennifer Aniston as Jeannie Bueller
    Ami Dolenz as Sloane Peterson
    Brandon Douglas as Cameron Frye
    Cristine Rose as Barbara Bueller

Why Ferris Bueller might be annoying:

It tried to capitalize on the popularity of the 1986 film 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.'
Its promotional trailer saw Charlie Schlatter take a chainsaw to a cardboard cutout of Matthew Broderick in disdain for the film's Ferris Bueller character.
For a show that was supposed to be based on the film, they sure screwed it up badly.
Although the film was set in Chicago, the show was set in Santa Barbara, which broke the canon.
Jeannie was the older sibling in the show, which was in stark contrast to her being the younger sibling in the film.
The parents names were Bob and Barbara in the show, despite the fact they were named Tom and Katie in the film.
Grace was portrayed as being a passive pushover with an unrequited crush on Ed, rather then the sarcastic wisecrack in the film.
It was a frequent target of negative criticism from viewers, who felt the show was a poor ripoff of the film.

Why Ferris Bueller might not be annoying:

It was one of Jennifer Aniston's first television roles.
It kept the rivalry between Ferris and Rooney in tact.
It deliberately tried to make itself unique from the film.
Contrary to popular belief, John Hughes was not associated with the show's production.
You were better off watching the film than the show.
