Drafted first overall by the New York Mets in the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft
Shortstop for the New York Mets (1970-71, 1978-79), Montreal Expos (1972-77), San Francisco Giants (1977), Pittsburgh Pirates (1979-81, 1985), California Angels (1982-83) and the New York Yankees (1984)

He played two stints each with the Mets and Pirates.
He had poor power and speed skills.
He was notorious for his habit of swinging at every pitch.
He averaged less then a home run a season during his career.

He played both baseball and football in high school and opted for a full-time career in baseball in college.
He was one of the key players acquired by the Expos in the Rusty Staub trade.
Despite his weak hitting prowess, he was considered a difficult player to strike out.
He was the first player in the history of the Expos to hit for the cycle.
He earned a World Series ring as a member of the Pirates (1979).
