Known for tracking down and ambushing Bonnie and Clyde

Why he might be annoying:

He repeatedly clashed with local politicians, quit the Rangers, then rejoined.
He worked for oil companies as a strikebreaker.
He did not give Bonnie and Clyde a chance to surrender.
He and other posse members took personal items from Bonnie and Clyde's car and refused family requests to return them.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered fearless and an excellent tracker.
One of his sons died in World War II at Iwo Jima.
When the film 'Bonnie and Clyde' (1967) falsely depicted him as a bungler who was kidnapped by Bonnie and Clyde, his widow and surviving son sued and won an out of court settlement.
