Actor

The Resume

    (1934-January 11, 2016)
    Born in Puente Nacional, Colombia
    Native of Santander, Colombia
Colombian screen legend; iconic Spanish telenovela/movie actor
Frequently billed as Carlos Munoz; affectionately known by fans as 'Carlito'
Career spanned over a seventy year period
Son of popular radio actor, José Antonio Muñoz
Started out on children’s radio programs, before landing a role on the popular Colombian costumbrist TV program 'Yo y tú,' in 1954
First major starring role was in the 1968 Ciro Duran period western 'Aquileo venganza'
Was confirmed dead by spouse Luz Helena Ángel, after undergoing surgery for a hernia affecting his stomach and lung in November 2015, which later led to his hospitalization (Jan. 11, 2016)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was stout and portly.
He is virtually unknown outside of Latin American circles (where he's basically a household name).
He had an affair with actress Maria Eugenia Davila while filming 'Pero Sigo Siendo El Rey' (AKA 'But I Am Still the King').
He shared a name with a popular Colombian NASCAR driver.
This misled many to search on Google about whether or not the (much younger) race car driver of the same name had passed away in a Bogota clinic.
He commented on modern 'tele-novela' entertainment in an interview by saying 'today the television is different. Parents have no idea what comes and many times do not know how to respond to their children.'
His age was reported as 72 by media outlets at the time of his death, despite having been born in 1934, making him at least 81 years of age at the time.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was on the same level as Cantinflas.
He excelled in both light comedy and heavy dramatic roles.
He taught himself Latin to portray the Father Pio Quinto, in 'San Tropel.'
He briefly served in the Colombian legislature.
He was good friends with Colombia's national literary icon, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
He was a three-time Premios TV y Novelas winner.
The Cartagena Film Festival named him 'Actor of the Century.'
He had won five Indias Catalina from the same Cartagena Film Festival, prior to 2001.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Colombian pop singer Carlos Vives both released condolences after the news of his death broke.
He generally turned down roles in his later years due to the declining quality of the scripts, but he continued to work with Colombian librettist Miguel Angel Baquero, who wrote the last of his major film/television roles.
