    Died while trying to save 3 kids from drowning (June 23, 1983)
    He died too young.
    He never learned how to swim.
    The only kid that he ended up saving from drowning became a cocaine dealer.
    His dad did not want him to be in the NFL.
    Despite not knowing how to swim, he jumped into a pond to save three boys from drowning (only one of the boys lived).
    He was voted into the Pro Bowl when he was a rookie.
    Ronald Reagan gave him the President Citizen's Medal (July 1983).
    He met his wife when he was seven.
    He was an unselfish person.
    He gave all his paycheck to his wife and daughters and all he wanted was ‘a little pocket chain for the week.'
    His old high school football coach said ‘Joe was a hell of a lot better person than he was an athlete, and he was a fantastic athlete.'
