Why he might be annoying:

Like most Native American actors, he gets typecast in Native American roles (although he once played an Italian!).
In 1997, police responded to a call from his home claiming he was armed and suicidal.
The situation turned into a standoff that lasted for hours.
He eventually surrendered peacefully, but had to be institutionalized.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is one of the most visible Native American actors working today.
His performance in 'Dances with Wolves' got him an Oscar nomination.
He is modest, and chuckles at the thought of being a role model for other Native actors.
He cracks a lot of jokes in interviews.
He has talked publicly about his struggles with depression.
