    Formed the duo Bob and Marcia with Bob Andy
    Bob and Marcia recorded the singles ‘Young, Gifted, and Black’ (1970) and ‘Pied Piper’ (1971)
    Member of the I-Threes, Bob Marley’s backup singers (1974-81)
    Best known solo single was ‘Electric Boogie’ (1990)
    Other solo songs include ‘Feel Like Jumping,’ ‘Melody Life,’ ‘Why There Is No Love,’ and ‘Stepping Out of Babylon’
    First name pronounced ‘Mar-see-a’

Why she might be annoying:

    She tried to shave four years off her age and claim 1953 as her birth year.
    She is a one-hit wonder in the US.
    Although she first recorded ‘Electric Boogie’ in 1983, it did not become a hit until a remixed version was released in 1990.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She won a talent contest at age fifteen and was signed to Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One label.
    Despite its modest chart position (#51 on the Billboard Hot 100), ‘Electric Boogie’ became a dance floor staple at wedding receptions and bar mitzvahs.
    She received the Jamaican Order of Distinction, Commander Class (2014).
    She noted, ‘Most of the new or upcoming female singers in reggae started out singing my songs before doing their own originals. I feel very good about that, to know that I have influenced my people positively.’
