She was mostly known as a usurper to the Macedonian throne.
There was a myth that she had sex with the god Zeus and that Alexander resulted from that union.
She was a member of the cult to the wine god, Dionysus.
She hated Alexander's close friend and perhaps male lover, Hephastion.
She spoiled her son.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was orphaned at an early age.
Initially she was looked down on because she grew up in a poorer kingdom, but later respected and even feared due to her manipulative skills and interest in mysticism.
She was very close to her son and ingrained his famous ambition in him.
She was portrayed by Angelina Jolie in Oliver Stone's version of Alexander the Great.
