Why he might be annoying:

He led the AL by grounding into 25 double plays in 1947.
He set team records in several offensive categories only to have all of them broken by Ted Williams.
Williams would chastise him for being unable to tell if a pitch was a fastball, curveball or slider. (And author David Halberstam noted, ‘Even when he did know, he would tell Williams he didn’t, to infuriate him.’)
He had to retire from baseball in his early 30s due to a bad back.
During retirement, he lived in a house in Oregon so remote that he had to a paddle a canoe several miles to get to the post office.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married to Monica Terpin for 65 years until her death.
He set an American League record (since broken) for most consecutive chances at second base without an error (414 in 1948).
Ted Williams called him ‘the silent captain of the team.’
He called the Curse of the Bambino ‘a bunch of baloney,’ saying the reason the Red Sox teams of his day kept falling short to the Yankees was a lack of decent relief pitchers.
Red Sox fans voted him the greatest second baseman in team history (1967).
Tommy Henrich of the rival Yankees said, ‘Bobby is one of the very few who played the game hard and retired with no enemies.’
