Why he might be annoying:

Despite his Jay Leno-like jawline and helped by his Raymond Burr stoutness, he stands a mere five foot ten.
Guess who was inspired by one of his songs?
Because he got into it with production over a contract dispute, he made only a handful of films for the ‘Carry On’ series in the mid-1960s.
He was interviewed as a potential successor to Jon Pertwee but got passed over for Tom Baker when he mentioned he was a fighter (hypocrisy ensued with Baker’s portrayal).
‘Actors are lucky because they don’t have to retire — they just go on playing older and older idiots.’ (Just how right he is, he has no idea.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He positively pinpoints the start of his professional career to the first week of 1943.
His narratives of classic ‘Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings’ were successful enough to inspire North American counterparts to do their own voice-overs.
He had a memorable appearance on Fawlty Towers as an obnoxious utensil vendor mistaken for a hotel inspector.
There aren’t too many ‘companions’ who can claim to have been with The Doctor in the 1960s and the new millennium — or the Daleks on the big and small screens.
‘You can’t go through life expecting to get prizes. You just get on with things, which is how it should be.’ (That’s the bonus.)
He is a mainstay in youth-oriented television.
