    Appeared on Broadway in 'Tiger at the Gates' (1968), 'The Me Nobody Knows' (1970), 'Pippin' (1976) and 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' (1980)
    He was bipolar.
    He abused cocaine.
    He attacked a woman with an iron rod, breaking her ribs, then vandalized cars and houses clad only in a Superman t-shirt (1980).
    When he was arrested and taken away strapped to a stretcher, he screamed, 'I'm David of Sesame Street and they're trying to kill me.'
    He was let go from 'Sesame Street' after he bit the musical director during an on-set fight and showed up unannounced at cast member Alison Bartlett's high school and proposed marriage.
    He died in a mental hospital after he attacked a staff doctor and suffered cardiac arrest while fighting against being restrained.
    He joined the Lincoln Center Repertory Company two days after graduating from the High School of the Performing Arts.
    When David dated Maria (portrayed by his former classmate Sonia Mozano), they became the first interracial couple on children's TV.
    In tribute to his character, when Elmo traded in his binky, he began carrying a doll named Baby David.
