    He almost always wore a watch on the court.
    He was reared on clay.
    A 60-year-old linesman at the 1983 US Open finals (boys’ singles) died after falling off his chair when clobbered – between the legs – by one of his shots.
    His final performance, in his home nation, was a defeat aggravated by an ankle injury.
    He married Mats Wilander’s former girlfriend, with whom he went on to have two children (one born in 1996).
