The Resume

    (March 27, 1999- )
    Born in Yongin-Si, South Korea
    Speed skater
Trended for losing a gold medal 3000 meter roller skate relay at the Asian Games (taken place at Huangzhou, China) by one hundredth of a second (October 2, 2023)

Why he might be annoying:

He was ahead skating for his team near the end of the race when he threw his arms in the air for victory right before the finish line.
His celebration enabled Yu-Lin Huang (Taiwan) to win the race by extending his foot out and winning the race by one-hundredth of a second.
He not only cost his country a gold medal but he also cost himself and his teammates 18 months of their lives as male gold medal winners would have exemption from mandatory military duty.

Why he might not be annoying:

His story provides yet another cautionary tale of why one should not celebrate a finish before the end of the race.
His blunder is reminiscent of Lindsey Jacobellis’’ 2006 Olympic blunder when she cost herself and the US a gold medal by attempting a snowboard trick only to fall and lose her lead.
The goof lead to a lucky gold for Taiwan.
He said to the press ‘I made a rather big mistake. I didn't come at full speed to the finish line. I let my guard down too early.’
In that same speech, he apologized to his teammates and their fans for losing the gold.
