    She had a son out of wedlock when she was 19.
    She married her boss at the Royal Automobile Club.
    Offered a chance to join the Swedish Academy, she replied, 'What use would they have of an old woman that is half blind, half deaf and totally crazy?'

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her criticism of the Swedish tax system after she received a tax demand that was 102% of her income led to the election defeat of the Social Democrat government and reform of the tax laws (1976).
    She supported children's rights and opposed corporal punishment.
    She was voted most popular Swede of the 20th century (1999).
    She said, 'If I have managed to brighten up one single miserable childhood then I'm satisfied.'
